Essex bus passenger satisfaction increases

13 Oct 25

In June 2025, more than 2,600 people shared their thoughts about travelling by bus in our Essex Bus Survey. The results are in — and they show that more people than ever are choosing to travel by bus, and they’re happier with the service too.

Since 2023, passenger numbers have grown by 7% every year — that’s over 2 million more journeys each year.

Here’s what you told us:

  • 71% overall satisfaction – up 17% since 2023

  • 64% satisfaction with punctuality – a 19% improvement

  • 80% satisfaction with journey time – up 6%

  • 72% satisfaction with value for money – an 8% rise

  • 63% satisfaction with bus stops – up from 56%, with better cleanliness, convenience, and personal safety

  • 59% of respondents use a Concessionary Pass

The main reasons people travel by bus are shopping, work, leisure, and health appointments. For many, the bus is about more than getting from A to B — it’s about convenience, affordability, and independence.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey.
