Essex County Council and Bauer Media Outdoor (formerly known as Clear Channel) have entered into a 10-year partnership for the installation, maintenance, and upkeep of shelters across the county. As part of this programme, shelters in Colchester City Centre are now being upgraded.
Work will take place during May and June and will involve Head Street, High Street and Crouch Street in Colchester. Details of the bus stop changes are outlined below:
High Street (Phase 1) - Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May 2025
High Street stops Gd and Gc will be suspended and unserved by buses.
Services 1, 2 (Arriva), 1A, 2A, 87, 102, 104 (First) and X93 (Ipswich Buses) will instead use adjacent stops Ga and Gb.
High Street (Phase 2) - Monday 19 May to Friday 23 May 2025
High Street stops Ga and Gb will be suspended and unserved by buses.
Services 8 (Arriva), 51, 53, 53A, 55, 55A and 68 (First) will instead use adjacent stops Gc and Gd.
Head Street - Tuesday 27 May to Friday 30 May 2025
Head Street stops Eb, Ec and Ed will be suspended and unserved by buses.
Some services will serve Stop Ea, however passengers are advised to board at alternative stopping points around the City Centre for most services as shown below:

Crouch Street - Monday 02 June to Thursday 05 June 2025
Crouch Street stops Da and Db will be suspended and unserved by buses. A temporary stop will be set up, approx. 20m west of stop Da, to cover services for both stops.
Whilst we aim to make sure the new shelters are an improvement for passengers, the Real Time Passenger Information screens will be integrated into the shelters at a later date.
Stops Ea and Fd will be upgraded at a later date via the Rapid Transit System project.
