Children travel free on buses across Essex this August

Families can make the most of the summer holidays with free bus travel for children and young people across participating Essex services.

Children aged 5 to 15 will be able to travel free on participating local bus services across Essex throughout August as part of the Government's Great British Summer Savings scheme, funded by the Department for Transport. The initiative will help families save money during the school holidays while encouraging more people to use public transport and explore more of what the county has to offer.

 Participating operators include:

  • Arriva

  • First Bus

  • Central Connect

  • Stephensons of Essex

  • DigiGo

The initiative is being delivered through participating bus operators and residents are encouraged to check with other bus operators before travelling, as participation may vary by operator and service.

To travel for free, children simply need to board the bus and ask the driver for a child's ticket to their destination.

In addition to local bus services, Essex County Council is funding free child travel on Essex Park and Ride services throughout August, extending the offer beyond the participating bus network.

To plan a journey, find local bus timetables or locate the nearest bus stop, residents can visit www.travelessex.co.uk or download the TravelEssex app.
